We advertise vacancies on our Employee Careers Site that can be accessed - (Insert Link for Search Pages) Most vacancies will be advertised, in a few cases a role may not be advertised and this typically happens to support rapid mobilisation or demobilisation or as a managed move to build succession, where there is scope and budget for an enlarged role within the business. 


A secondment is a temporary transfer into a different or larger role. Secondments can be created based on business need; to cover a maternity leave of for a specific project, or created to support a specific development need. They are usually for a pre agreed fixed amount of time and can sometimes lead to a permanent opportunity.

Yes, the Hiring Mangers name & contact details are at the top of the job advert so you can have a confidential, exploratory conversation before applying. You will still need to make a formal application via the Internal Careers Site if you are interested in progressing.

We would encourage you to have regular and open career conversations with your manager. You are able to initiate these at any time and regular PDR conversations can also help enable these conversations. You can search for vacancies on the job search page (link) if you are interested in applying for a role you can click 'Apply Now' and complete the application form. You will also be asked to attach a CV (if you have one) You application will go through to the Recruiter looking after the vacancy and they will contact you within 5 working days.

We have a competency based interview guide that managers will use to assess applicants against the requirements of the role. In addition for some roles you may be asked technical questions, to prepare a presentation or to complete a technical assessment. The Hiring Manager will make the decision based on the assessment process. 

Yes, we endeavour to provide feedback to all employees following an interview, feedback can also be requested if your application is not successful in securing an interview.

In most cases you will need to apply for a vacancy that is a higher grade to secure a promotion, in some cases promotions are given in role or as part of a managed move. 

Career progression comes in many shapes and sizes and your career path will be personal to you, progression doesn't always have to mean a promotion. 

We consider a promotion to be where the role accountabilities have increased such that the position is assessed to have increased in grade OR where there is a formal appointment made in response to a vacancy that is at a higher level/grade that the individuals existing role. 

Its best to discuss development and career aspirations with your line manager so they can support you. There may be opportunity to gain further experience and increase your skills & capability within your current or wider team. 

They may change if you are offered a new role and will align to the role you have applied for. We are working towards consistent and fair grading across BBUK.

The Recruiter looking after the vacancy will be able to give guidance on the salary & grade.

At the latest, you will need to inform your line manager of an application if you accept an interview.

Yes you can and we would encourage you to be open and honest throughout the process. Hiring Manager can access information about formal performance improvement plans.

The recruitment team will contact employees that apply for a role within 5 working days of an application being made ensuring we prioritise our people in the process . 

Any employees that find themselves at risk of redundancy are further prioritised the process so that where there is a 70% match to the role they are guaranteed an interview. 

Our ambition is that this feedback is provided by the Hiring Manager but in some cases this may be provided via the Recruiter, you can request a follow up with the Hiring Manager.

Usually the Recruiter will contact you regarding an offer, this tends to be explained over the phone and then confirmed in writing. In some cases the Hiring Manager may wish to contact you directly. Following your verbal acceptance you will receive an updated contract from HR Shared Services.

If you are successful in securing a new role we want to support you to successfully transition, balancing your need and the business need to agree a start date.  Where this can't be agreed, we should use the contractual notice period as the default.
